Sony Xperia S?NFC Explained

imageNFC (Near Field Communication) is a short-range wireless technology that lets you exchange data with other devices, pay for goods using your phone, and scan special tags that give you more information about a product or service or instruct your phone to do something.

The tags you see or create include contacts, URLs, map locations, or text or send files between yours and another NFC enabled phone. The maximum reading distance is about one centimetre, which helps prevent unauthorized communications.

There are not many NFC tags in public but they are slowly increasing.? Sony offer programmable SmartTags that can be used by you on a daily basis to complete many everyday actions from switching on Bluetooth & WiFi to setting an alarm.

To turn on the NFC function:
1.From your Home screen , tap the applications button
2.Find and tap Settings>Wireless & networks.
3.Mark the NFC checkbox.

You can now begin swiping NFC tags and using NFC features.

Troubleshooting/Tips/NFC is not working?

  • If NFC is not working, check that it is switched on, this include the phone you are using and the phone you may be connecting with.
  • If sending a file to another phone ensure they are back to back or touched together.? They should both vibrate when the transfer starts.
  • The distance between the two phones or your phone and an NFC enabled object should be about 1cm.
  • When transferring files, it can only be a photo, video or audio track.? You can transfer photos and video from the galley application only and music from the Xperia music player.
  • The receiving phone should be in the Home screen when receiving files from another phone.
  • Transfer one file at a time.
  • Sony uses the NFC standard for file sharing. If you are sharing a file with a non-Sony phone, and the transfer is not working properly, the non-Sony phone may not fully support the NFC standard for file sharing. To send the file, try using Bluetooth instead.
