Oscar fish are one of the most beautiful fish found in tropical regions of our planet. Cichlid belonging to the family and its scientific name is Astronontus ocellatus. This tropical fish is known for their aggressive and domineering. They belong to the category of freshwater fish found in rivers like the Amazon, Orinoco and La Plata.
Although they are native to South America, also found in Colombia and Peru. There are basically three types of Oscar fish: Tigre, Red Oscar Albino. These fish need much space because it can become quite large. It is not advisable to have them in an aquarium as they tend to scare other fish and may even eat the smaller ones.
The best thing about them is that they recognize its owner and also can feed them by hand. This quality has given them names like fish dog or dogs from river water. They are capable of shaking the head or wag their tails when they see the person get fed. They usually live between 10-12 years. Oscar fish farming can be difficult, as these creatures are very aggressive.
It is best kept between 5 and 6 juveniles and wait for them to select their own partner before forcing a marriage between two. Be careful because it can kill. Remember that the Tiger is the one considered as the original.
