North Korea Is Allegedly Building Its Own Tablet, The Samjiyeon

samjiyeonWe've heard previous reports that North Korea was building their own PCs, but a more recent report out of the South Korean Dong-a Ilbo newspaper suggests that a tablet may also be in the works. It's unclear whether or not the tablet was made in North Korea or in China, though previous reports of a North Korean tablet demoed at the Pyongyang International Trade Fair were said to be developed at the Korea Computer Center. Then again, the national media has also said their computers were "designed and developed purely using [their] own expertise," though a little digging proved otherwise.

Microsoft unveils 'Surface' tablet computer

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Microsoft unveiled a new tablet computer, Surface, that attempts to take advantage of one of the few criticisms of Apple's iPad ? that it is better for consuming content than creating it.

Photos: Microsoft's new tablet computer

The software maker said Monday that its device will attach to a removable rubberized keyboard that also acts like a book cover. CEO Steve Ballmer said Surface will be an entertainment device "without compromising the productivity that PCs are uniquely known for."

Microsoft Corp.'s broadside against the iPad is a dramatic step to ensure that its Windows software plays a major role in the increasingly important mobile computing market.

"They are saying it's a different world now and are trying to put the sexy back into the Microsoft brand," said Gartner Inc. analyst Carolina Milanesi.

Microsoft is linking the Surface's debut with the release of its much-anticipated Windows 8 operating system, which has been designed with tablets in mind. The company hasn't specified when Windows 8 will hit the market, but most analysts expect the software to come out in September or October.

One version of the Surface, which won't go on sale until sometime in the fall, is 9.3 millimeters thick and works on the Windows RT operating system which was made for tablets that run on low-power chips designed by British chipmaker ARM Holdings PLC.

It comes with a 0.7-millimeter thick kickstand to hold it upright and a 3-millimeter-thick touch keyboard cover that snaps on using magnets. The device weighs under 1.5 pounds.

The size is similar to the latest iPad, which is 9.4 millimeters thick and weighs 1.3 pounds.

Surface has a screen that measures 10.6 inches diagonally, compared to 9.7 inches for the iPad, but it comes in the 16:9 aspect ratio, which is suited to watching video in the widescreen format. The iPad's screen size ratio is 4:3.

Microsoft said the Surface's price tag will be similar to the iPad, which sells for $499 to $829, depending on the model.

A slightly thicker version ? still less than 14 millimeters thick and under 2 pounds ? will work on Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 Pro operating system and cost as much as an Ultrabook, the company said. The pro version comes with a stylus that allows users to make handwritten notes on documents such as PDF files. It will be released about three months later.

The touch keyboard resembles the lightweight "Smart Cover" that Apple Inc. sells for $38, but comes with a full QWERTY keyboard. It is rigidly flat instead of foldable. A slightly thicker keyboard with depressable keys will also be available.

Although the Surface looks like an elegant device, Forrester Research analyst Sarah Rotman Epps criticized Microsoft for not using attention focused on Monday's announcement to highlight some of the reasons that it might be a better option than the iPad. For instance, she thinks Microsoft could have shown how its video calling service, Skype, will work on Surface or how people might be able to use its motion-control sensor, Kinect, on the tablet.

"I am excited about this product, but it felt like Microsoft was pulling punches with this announcement," Epps said. "Hardware is only part of the dynamic. They need to explain how Microsoft manufacturing this device will change people's experience with a tablet."

Microsoft also may be limiting the Surface's impact by limiting the initial sales to its own stores and online channels.

The foray into hardware is unusual for Microsoft, which relies on manufacturers like Hewlett-Packard and Dell, and could cause friction. Ballmer said the company, at times, needs to push hardware makers "in ways even that the makers of the hardware had yet to envision."

He said the tablet was as essential to the upcoming Windows 8 operating system as the mouse was for the first version of Windows.

"Much like Windows 1.0 needed the mouse to complete the experience, we wanted to give Windows 8 its own companion hardware innovation," he said.

The more hands-on approach may upset some manufacturers.

Nomura analyst Rick Sherlund said Microsoft will have to assure longtime manufacturing partners that it is competing fairly with them.

"Microsoft will need to assure them it's a level playing field," he said. "I think this sets a high bar for their partners."

Microsoft has been making software for tablets since 2002, when it shipped the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. Many big PC makers produced tablets that ran the software, but they were never big sellers. The tablets were based on PC technology, and were heavy, with short battery lives.

Microsoft didn't say how long the Surface would last on battery power.

It won't be the first time Microsoft has ventured into hardware. And the Surface won't be its first computer, in the broad sense. The successful Xbox game console is essentially a PC designed to connect to a TV and play video games.

Microsoft has also made its own music player, the Zune, and a line of phones, the Kin. In both cases,

it produced these products after hardware partners had failed to produce competitive products with Microsoft's software.

Both products were failures. The Zune gained favorable reviews when it launched in 2006, but still couldn't hold its own against the iPod, and was discontinued last year. The Kin phones were panned and pulled from shelves within two months of their launch in 2010.

The Xbox, on the other hand, didn't tread on the toes of any Microsoft partners. Launched in 2001, it has made Microsoft a major player in console gaming, alongside Sony and Nintendo. But it was a money-loser for many years, and while it's been profitable more recently, it's only marginally so, especially when compared to Microsoft's lucrative software business.

Gene Simmons' Daughter Sophie Auditions For X Factor

Gene Simmons’ daughter did not spend Father's Day with her dad. Instead, Sophie Simmons flew out to San Francisco to try out for The X Factor.

While Gene and Sophie do have a close relationship, Sophie decided to spend Sunday with Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.

"This isn't about my dad. This is all about my audition," Sophie reportedly told the judges, asking to be judged on merit and not by her surname.

Sophie may or may not have made it to the next round, but with a rock star for a dad, she's likely not afraid of performing on the stage at least.

Speaking of dad, he wasn't feeling snubbed. Gene actually took a private jet out to see his daughter as she tried out for the Fox show. Awww.

Med Student Rescues Body Part From Airport Security

No, said airline security, you can't take this bottle on board. It exceeds the 100 milliliter limit; it's forbidden.

We have just 16 hours to get it into her body.

But wait, said professor Martin Birchall of Bristol University. This is a medical container. Inside is a trachea, a carefully constructed human wind pipe, seeded with 60 million stem cells from a very sick woman in Barcelona. We have just 16 hours to get it into her body. We pre-arranged this.

We have no record of your request, said the airline.

You do have a record, said the professor. There's a woman in Barcelona right now who needs this, and we are running out of time. It took us five months to create this organ. It is the first of its kind. We must board this plane.

Sometimes, leaps in medical science require an agreeable security guard, and on this day in 2008, he wasn't playing. The guard, then his supervisors, said no. Being larger than 100 milliliters, the bottle was categorically dangerous material. If Professor Birchall insisted on boarding the plane, he would be arrested. Birchall had no Plan B. What was he to do? This is a true story.

Claudia Castillo was 30 when she received a transplanted trachea infused with her own cells. Hospital Clinic of Barcelona/AP

Claudia Castillo was 30 when she received a transplanted trachea infused with her own cells.

?

Claudia Castillo Had A Problem

It begins when Claudia Castillo, a 30-year-old Columbian mother living in Barcelona, developed a cough. She went to her doctor, but the diagnosis took a while, and soon she was coughing constantly, short of breath, couldn't work, clean, shop or cook. It was getting harder to look after her two children. She was hospitalized and told she had tuberculosis.

The doctors gave her two options. She could have her left lung removed, or she could try a transplant. But this transplant, they told her, had never been done before. She would be a pioneer.

The tuberculosis had damaged her trachea, a tube about four to six inches long that lets air flow from the larynx to the lungs. Normally, people who need new tracheas get them from donors, usually dead ones. There is a waiting list. Because the organ used to belong to someone else, once it is placed in a new body, native cells sense foreigners in their midst and attack. People who receive donor organs have to take immune suppressant drugs for years, though it makes them vulnerable to all kinds of diseases.

Doing It Differently

Claudia's doctor, Paolo Macchiarini, had decided to try a radical alternative.

Working with a team in Sweden, he got a trachea for Claudia, as usual, from a donor. But this time they washed it clean of all surface cells, leaving only the skeleton structure underneath. Then, they surgically removed some stem cells from Claudia's bone marrow and shipped them to the University Bristol in Britain, where Professor Birchall got them to multiply by the millions and fed them a broth designed to turn them into tracheal cells.

Harvard Bioscience

The section of trachea with two days of cell growth, immediately before Castillo's implant surgery.

Now comes the We've-Never-Done-This-Before part: The trachea was then "dipped" into a bath of Claudia's cells, to see if they would attach.

A company in America, Harvard Bioscience Inc., of Holliston, Mass., makes a shoebox-sized "bioreactor" for just this purpose. It looks like a rotisserie for barbecuing chickens.

Professor Birchall and his team took the new trachea, mounted it onto a rotating drum, and then dropped it into a nutrient medium so Claudia's cells would grow and spread, then lifted it out, so the cells could get oxygen, then dumped it back in again. In, out, in out, until ... the underlying Y-shaped scaffold was covered with Claudia's cells. This trachea now was Totally Claudia on the outside.

That done, Birchall's team booked the only direct flight from Bristol to Barcelona, operated by an airline called easyJet. Birchall insists he had "several conversations" with the airline to make sure everything would go smoothly. The trachea had 16 hours to get into Claudia. That's when easyJet said no.

You Never Asked, Says The Airline

EasyJet spokesman Andrew McConnell later told the BBC, "We do not have any record of the passengers request to carry medical materials onboard the flight." The request, he said, should have been to the easyJet call center in Poland. Dr. Birchall told reporters he had gone to the Bristol Airport ahead of time and was given specific packaging instructions, which he carefully followed. The airline spokesman said a check of company files found no such request. Birchall says the records should be there. The airline told reporters it would "rule out" the possibility the airline misplaced a file.

At the gate, discussions grew more and more heated. Professor Birchall says he got "furious" and was almost arrested. If we fail to deliver the cells, he said, years of work would be wasted and scientists will miss a "major breakthrough for surgery and science."

Young Med Student To The Rescue

At this point, the medical student who was going to take the organ to Barcelona, Philipp Jungerbluth, told Professor Birchall that he had a pilot friend in Germany with a small jet who could come immediately to Bristol, take the container and fly it straight to Spain. Calls were made, the friend agreed to do it for "cost" ? 14,000 pounds (about $21,000) and Birchell paid on the spot. (He was later reimbursed by his university.)

We have no record of your request, said the airline.

Philipp, instead of flying on easyJet, took the trachea to Barcelona with his pilot friend and later told science writer Mark Stevenson that easyJet "wouldn't even refund the 70 pounds for the original ticket."

The trachea did make it to Barcelona, and then into Claudia Castillo. Ten days after her operation, Castillo was discharged from the hospital. Within weeks, her lung function rebounded. Tests showed she was back to normal for her age, and doctors found no antibodies that would indicate her body was rejecting the transplant. The Guardian reports that later she called up her doctor to tell him she'd been dancing that night in a club in Ibiza.

A frame from 'A revolution in surgery.'

Since then, there have been seven more such operations, where donated organs were stripped, then swabbed with stem cells, then placed in patients. And more recently, Dr. Macchiarini has gone the final step.

Amazingly, he doesn't do transplants anymore. Tracheas, he has decided, can be regenerated from scratch, using stem cells.

No Organ Donors Necessary: We Build 'Em From Scratch

Last year, he had a patient, a 36-year-old student in Iceland who was suffering from an advanced case of tracheal cancer. Tumors were closing in on the windpipe, threatening strangulation. Doctors took 3-D pictures of the man's trachea, then constructed a facsimile in glass, surrounded the glass frame with a porous plastic called polyethylene glycol and infused that with the patient's stem cells. The cells, fed a soup that would induce them to become trachea cells, did what they were told, and after a week, the man had a new, totally artificial trachea made from his own cells. He hasn't needed anti rejection drugs since. He is now cancer free.

Then, a few months ago, Dr. Macchiarini did it again, this time for a 30-year-old Baltimore man, Christopher Lyles. Lyles' new trachea seemed to be working fine, but a few months ago, he died.

What Will They Do Next?

Starfish have remarkable regenerative powers. Enlarge Ayodhya Ouditt/NPR

Starfish have remarkable regenerative powers.

Starfish have remarkable regenerative powers.

Clearly this is a new frontier. There will be wins, losses, but it feels as if we have crossed a line. For years I have marveled at the lucky animals who oh-so-casually regenerate body parts. Worms do it. So do newts and salamanders, and damaged starfish practically reclone themselves.

With these new stem cell therapies, we can, in a modest way, begin to do it too. We are learning how to regenerate parts of ourselves, by ourselves.

What Dr. Macchiarini did with the trachea is now being tried for blood vessels, urethras and bladders ? all simple organs, basically tubes, or in the bladder's case, a sphere.

Can I Print You A Human Kidney?

The organs we really need, the ones in short supply ? hearts, livers, kidneys ? they are much harder to regenerate because those organs open, close, pull, push and are thick with blood vessels, which makes them much more complicated. But when you see what's being imagined, when you see the Ted Talk where Dr. Anthony Atala uses a printer ? an inkjet printer! ? to create what will one day, maybe, be a human kidney ? he's got this fleshy, wet prototype sitting floppily in his hands, and the audience, enthralled, gives him a standing ovation ? you have to think miracles are about to happen.

Here's one I can imagine, and mind you I'm making this up: I'm thinking of an airport security guard, one of those really zealous ones, who knows the rules and knows they Must Be Obeyed. With his permission, I extract a small sample of stem cells, drop them in a Wisdom Broth where they grow and multiply, are mounted onto an artificial scaffold and inserted deep in his frontal cortex. A day later, our guard leaves the hospital, returns to work and, astonishingly, allows scientists to carry important medical packages on board, even though they are bathed in more than 100 milliliters of liquid!

Crazy, you say? Impossible? Just wait. Wonderful things are about to happen.

If you'd like to see Claudia Castillo and her doctor, here's a short video from The Guardian.

Dr. Macchiarini's paper describing the operation can be found here. The Los Angeles Times had a good analysis here, and blogger Ed Yong, as always, got there ahead of everybody else.

Which '80s rocker did you want to be?

David James / Warner Bros. Pictures

Tom Cruise rocks out as Stacee Jaxx in "Rock of Ages."

By Tony Sclafani, msnbc.com contributor

If you believe the movie ?Rock of Ages,? the 1980s were all about big hair, trashy pop metal, and rock?n?roll excess. It wasn?t all like that, of course. Some of the most socially-conscious music came out of that time period?-- as anyone who saw a U2 or Bruce Springsteen concert can tell you.

But what we remember the Reagan Decade for was its excesses and it?s this era that ?Rock of Ages? sought to capture in both its current movie form and its original Broadway ?jukebox musical? presentation.

But enough time has passed for those of us who came of age then that we can now say: Enough with trying to pretend all we liked were the ?quality? artists. Enough with the posing, to use an old ?80s word. Enough with pretending all that we slapped on the old turntable were platters by critically-approved artists like Billy Bragg, Husker Du, and the Replacements. Yeah, I liked them too, but that?s not all I liked. And my guess is that if you were a pop fan then, that?s not all you liked either.

Maybe you harbored a secret crush on the ballad stylings of Phil Collins or Lionel Ritchie. Or maybe when no one was looking you popped cassettes of Poison and Warrant into the tape deck that your friends assumed only took Smiths and Cure tapes. Or did you secretly lip-sync along to New Kids on the Block a la Tom Cruise in ?Risky Business??

Back in the 1980s, niche marketing was only in its infancy, so we pretty much all heard the same songs and saw the same videos. And no matter how jaded or sophisticated you were, chances are you grew to love a few of them as they oozed out of the radio and MTV. Maybe you hated them at first, but then they earwormed their way into your brain and now you get all teary-eyed and nostalgic when you catch snippets of Bon Jovi or Thompson Twins songs in the supermarket.

As for me, I?ll admit that when it came to cranking up the old car radio and listening to the commercial stuff, there was one and only one artist to whose music I could totally relate: Debbie Gibson. Yes, the former teen pop star who sang ?Shake Your Love,? ?Lost in Your Eyes? and other prom favorites. She was the one rock star I imagined I could be, but for reasons that went beyond that obvious assumption about gender and sexual orientation everyone is probably making right now.

Why did I love Debbie Gibson? Let me count the reasons. First, she was young and suburban, so seemed approachable, not like some icon from another galaxy. Second, she put out squeaky-clean pop that I felt followed the tradition of the oldies artists I liked (ones that sang songs like ?Be True to Your School?).

Finally, Gibson eschewed the gloom and doom, dressed-in-black, life-is-bleak worldview of so many other artists back then. The video for her almost-hit ?We Could Be Together? came off like the ultimate fun-for-all field trip, with her and her band piling into a school bus and setting off for a world of (G-Rated) adventure.

Gibson appears in ?Rock of Ages? along with Sebastian Bach of Skid Row and the lead singers of Xtreme and REO Speedwagon. To anyone who despised this stuff back in the day, the movie will probably seem like slow torture. But to anyone who wasn?t above sitting around and watching MTV, the movie will be like a homecoming of sorts (and enough people like it that the soundtrack just made its debut at the top of the Billboard soundtrack charts).

So now, dear reader, it?s your turn to ?fess up. I?ll fully admit that Debbie Gibson is my idea of a fab pop artist and I?ve even been known to defend her commercial flop of a third album, ?Anything is Possible,? as High Art. So what was it for you? Hair bands? Easy listening groups like Air Supply? Madonna? Please don?t say Kenny Rogers -- even I have to draw the line somewhere.

Feel free to move it on over to our Facebook page and tell us which Reagan Era rocker you wanted to be.

Summary: FundaGeek is a crowdfunding platform focusing on technical innovation, such as commercial projects based on technology, scientific research projects at universities and research institutions, education, and more. The site focuses on seven to 90-day commercial technology or tech research projects.

Best Feature: When users submit a project, it undergoes a review to ensure it's creative, unique, and appealing to a variety of people. FundaGeek also allows the user to make a project private so donors have to log in to see the full project details.

What To Consider: The site can be a bit difficult to browse and could use a categorical feature for searching for projects. Also, because FundaGeek screens projects before adding them to the site, not every interested patron has the chance to use its services.

Ideal User: Individuals looking to fund research or projects in the technology and science sector will find FundaGeek to be a good option.

Cost: There is no charge to create a project on FundaGeek, but if a project is successfully funded, the site charges 5 to 9% depending on which marketing option you choose.

5. Credibles

Summary: Credibles, a service offered by Slow Money, offers crowdfunding services to small, sustainable food-related businesses. The site offers a redemption service for prepaid crowd funding, donation tracking, and more.

Best Feature: When donors prepay their favorite business, they?re repaid with edible credits, or "Credibles,? which can be redeemed at the business. These credits, worth $1, serve as an incentive for fans and customers to participate. A customer who invested in a food-related business could, for instance, be paid back for their investment in ice cream. Credibles can be given as gifts and transferred for use at partnering businesses.

What To Consider: The service is currently limited to businesses in New York City and California, so businesses in other areas will have to wait before they?re able to use the service.

Ideal User: Credibles is ideal for professionals and business owners in the food and restaurant industry.

Cost: Credibles charges a small service fee when a supporter pays via the ?pre-pay? option, though the site does not specify how much.

6. Petridish

Summary: Petridish is a crowdfunding platform for scientists to showcase their research to the public and for the public to show recognition and support to innovative researchers in the form of monetary payments or pledges.

Best Feature: Petridish provides you with the opportunity to gain support of the next, life-changing scientific discovery. Your ?backers? have the ability to email your project to family and friends, share your research on Twitter and Facebook, and even ?star? your findings as a favorite. With these simple links, your research has the ability to be shared and spread across the Internet quickly.

What To Consider: Projects are hand-selected, thus not everyone has a chance of showcasing their research. Also, similar to Pozible, Petridish uses an ?all or nothing? approach in which projects are only funded if they meet their goal by the set deadline.

Ideal User: Scientific experts looking to share their passions with others in order to accumulate backers and funding worldwide. Petridish is for the ?best of the best? in science, as only some projects will make the cut.

Cost: The site requires a 5% fee. Third-party credit card processing fees are also the responsibility of the researcher, which are typically 3 to 4%.

Has your business ever used a crowdfunding service? How did it work for you? Share your thoughts below.

98% The Island President

In the simultaneously inspiring and harrowing documentary "The Island President," Mohamed Nasheed was elected to the presidency of the Maldives, a 2000 island archipelago nation in the Indian Ocean, bringing an end to a thirty-year repressive dictatorship in 2008. But a new struggle presents itself in global warming. Currently, the effects there can be seen in erosion and the groundwater. All of which could lead to a unique culture and nation being literally wiped from the map, and its country's population turned into 'environmental refugees.' So, instead of spending valuable resources on health care and education, he has to go with sea walls and other protective measures. So, through this example, we get a disturbing look at what all of our futures may be like if we do not change our ways very soon.(With the use of some great shots, the Maldvies do seem like something out of speculative fiction.) If our behavior affects all others across the globe, then why can't the butterfly flap its wings in the opposite direction, which is where Nasheed comes in, not only in speaking across the world(I'm not recommending invoking World War II usually in speehces, but if you have to, mention Czechoslovakia), but also in proposing to make his country entirely carbon neutral in 10 years by relying on renewable energy sources like solar and wind, making the Maldives an example for the rest of the world. This is harder than it sounds with the economic interests of countries like China and India making things especially difficult with a memorable climax at the climate conference at Copenhagen in 2009. But sadly, Nasheed did not have that much time as he was ousted in a threatened coup in February of this year.

MIUI reaches Google Play as MiHome Launcher, gives that Xiaomi look

Xiaomi's MIUI interface for Android has been available to load up for some time, but unless you were willing to flash your firmware, you might as well have just imported one of the company's phones instead. Now, however, getting much of that heavily customized (if slightly familiar) layer is as quick as heading over to Google Play. Dedicated versions are available both for Android 2.3 and 4.0 that provide the same core navigation as well MIUI Locker to replace the current lock screen. It won't quite replicate the experience of the real deal, but it will certainly be the most trouble-free.

Hurricane Carlotta hits Mexican coast, weakens

This image provided by NASA acquired Friday at 11 p.m. EDT shows Hurricane Carlotta slammed into Mexico's resort-studded Pacific coast late Friday, toppling trees and lashing hotels while authorities evacuated people from low-lying areas. (AP) ? A weakening Hurricane Carlotta pushed northward toward the resort city of Acapulco on Saturday after making landfall near the Mexican beach town of Puerto Escondido, where it toppled trees and shook tourist hotels.

Rain was falling in Acapulco, but authorities lifted a hurricane warning for the resort late Friday and replaced it with a tropical storm warning.

"We don't care about the rain, we're going to have fun at the club," said tourist Alejandra Flores, who took a bus with a friend yesterday from Guadalajara to Acapulco. People in Acapulco were calm and dining in restaurants late Friday.

Earlier Friday, Carlotta had toppled billboards and shattered some windows in Puerto Escondido, a laid-back port popular with surfers, where it reached land as a Category 1 hurricane.

"The wind is incredible and the trees are swaying so much. A window just shattered," said Ernesto Lopez, a 25-year-old engineer who was visiting Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca state for a graduation.

Coral Ocampo, receptionist at the Hotel Careyes, said the wind was tearing down the skinnier palm trees and that she had asked guests to return to their rooms and stay there until the storm had passed.

Oaxaca's civil protection service said some roads near the resorts of Huatulco and Pochutla were affected by mudslides, and that authorities had opened emergency shelters and evacuated dozens of families from low-lying areas.

Carlotta had strengthened into a powerful Category 2 hurricane earlier Friday and forecasters had expected it to move northward, parallel to the coastline, possibly reaching Acapulco as a hurricane. But instead it moved inland and weakened. Forecasters now expect Carlotta to become a tropical storm on Saturday and a tropical depression on Sunday.

By late Friday night, Carlotta's winds had lessened to 90 mph (150 kph), according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. The center of the storm was about 10 miles (15 kms) northwest of Puerto Escondido and was moving to the northwest at about 10 mph (17 kph).

Ines Vos, a German who has lived on Mexico's coast for 22 years and now runs the Beach Hotel Ines in Puerto Escondido, said she had readied the hotel's generator and stocked up on gasoline and bottled water in preparation for the storm.

"In the morning, a lot of people left, they didn't want to stay because nobody knows how the roads will be" after Carlotta, said Vos, who lived through Hurricane Pauline in 1997. Pauline made landfall at Puerto Escondido with winds of 109 mph, killing at least 230 people along the Pacific coast.

The part of Oaxaca state and neighboring Guerrero state that the storm will pass over is full of mountainous terrain that can experience flash floods under heavy rainfalls. Officials warn that rains could still present a danger.
